After years of managing social media accounts for opticians, fashion, beauty brands, and even a busy airport, I decided I wanted to give more to clients... that's why I went freelance!

I saw first-hand how business owners struggled to make the time to create impactful content that didn't just look good, but actually connected and converted their audience.

I have a confession to make…

I did the one thing I said I’d try never to do, and I burnt out.

Not from client work, not from having too much on my plate, but from the pressure I was putting on myself.

When you work solo, it’s really hard not to. There’s always that little voice in the back of your mind telling you there’s more you could be doing, more you should be doing.

But in reality, sometimes you just need to slow down.

Being ambitious is great, and seeing other people succeed online can be inspiring, but it can also be incredibly damaging.

As somebody who works in social media, I realised I needed to take a small step back from what I was consuming. I’d spend my spare time scrolling, and before I knew it, my brain went straight back into work mode.

During my talk at NTU, I spoke about the importance of prioritising wellbeing, and that’s exactly what my focus is right now.

Not going overboard trying to find new clients, or get stuck in the doom-scroll, but to actually go outside, touch grass, and reconnect with people I’ve unintentionally put on the back burner while growing my business.

Because at the end of the day, success means nothing if you’re too burnt out to enjoy it, right?

→ Telling the story behind your food and drink - where does your produce come from? Is it local? Who’s making it? This will get people feeling connected and demonstrate that the venue has local value and cares about the quality of their dishes.

→ Use motion to engage the senses - it’s not 2019 anymore, static images don’t grab attention. Think pours, garnishes, cutting, dipping, sizzling pans, all of this movement makes your audience feel taste, smell, and texture through the screen, prompting them to take action.

→ Go beyond promotion - PLEASE! Social media isn’t just about announcing events or specials, if it was as simple as that, everybody could do it (well, almost). It’s about creating an experience and a craving. When your audience feels it, they act.

Yes, there are moments of self-doubt.
Yes, there are times when I think ??? What am I doing.
Yes, there are just as many low moments are there are highs.

But in that, there have been SO many lessons.
